“Votes Are Been Tampered With” – US Sends Message To Nigeria

Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), Ranking Member of the House Subcommittee on Africa, issued the following statement on the elections in Nigeria: “Yesterday(Saturday), Nigeria voted. Today (Sunday), votes are being counted. I am very concerned by credible reports that the vote is being tampered with. To avoid any manipulation of the tally, it is critical that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announce without delay actual results — which are certified by party agents and observers — at each polling unit as the vote is tabulated. “Well-placed sources report that in some states and localities — including Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia — INEC commissioners are receiving enormous pressure to alter poll results. This must not be allowed to happen. “The eyes of the United States, of Africa, and the world are upon Nigeria and INEC. Atiku defeats Buhari at Ambode’s ward, loses others The presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has won the election at Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State ward, defeating President Muhammadu Buhari. Atiku and Buhari Aside the President, other APC candidates yesterday lost at the ward to their PDP counterparts. Though the governor was able to deliver his ward as promised to the President but was unable to influence the electorate in his ward to vote massively for him. t Ambode’s Ward A5, polling unit 033, Ogunmodede College in Ajaganabe Area, Papa Epe, Buhari polled 131 votes as against People’s Democratic Party, PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar, who polled 116 votes. Ambode, however, could not deliver his ward for the party’s Senatorial and House of Representatives candidates.
