WOW! INEC Pays Back Tuface Idibia After All His Years Of Service To The Country
Towards the 2019 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission had engaged the Nigerian music star and others to mentor youths on the need to maintain peace during the exercise. Tuface, who is branded INEC ambassador alongside Bishop Ime Okon (Okon Lagos) were in Calabar, Cross River State for a one-day workshop aimed at sensitising youths to the forthcoming elections. Declaring the event open, the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of Outreach and Partnership Committee, Dr. Adekunle Ogunmola, acknowledged the contribution of INEC Youth Ambassadors to the success of the 2015 general elections.
“As role models and societal icons with proven capacity to influence the nation’s youth population, majority of whom actively participate in the electoral process, the INEC Ambassadors, through a series of interactive sessions and roundtable discussions with the youth population, songs and drama, contributed significantly to the outcome of the 2015 general elections,” he said, adding that the workshop would provide an opportunity for appraisal, new ideas, and developing a strategic plan of action for achieving more in 2019.
The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Briyai Falkland, said, “The workshop is timely and important. This is because the youths are the hyperactive elements of the electoral process and so should be well-guided not only to achieve success but to also avoid undue mistakes that will lead to violence in future electoral activities.” Tuface, who led eight national music and Nollywood stars to the event, said, “The campaign by INEC to engage youths in the electoral process is a step in the right direction. INEC decided to engage youths because they are often used by the politicians for shady activities during elections.”
